Our story begins in the early 1970s when friends Stewart and Strauss shared a passion for varsity jacket design while attending university together. After graduating, they decided to turn their shared interest into a business venture and opened the first Stewart & Strauss® store, providing letterman jackets to schools and clubs across the country.
As former athletes themselves, Stewart and Strauss understood the importance of quality craftsmanship and sourced only the finest wools, leathers, and materials for their custom jackets. Each jacket was expertly constructed in our California workshop, paying careful attention to ensure it would withstand the rigors of athletic activity while maintaining a stylish, classic look. Their attention to detail quickly earned Stewart & Strauss® a reputation for manufacturing the premier letterman jackets in the nation.
Keeping Quality Craftsmanship Alive
While many apparel companies have moved production overseas, we proudly continue to handcraft all our jackets in the USA. We still source the same fine wool, real leather sleeves, and heavyweight fabrics used in our original jackets in the 1970s. Our experienced seamstresses cut and stitch each piece with care, while our leather artisans hand-cut each leather sleeve to ensure the perfect fit. Every order is custom-built to order; we do not mass produce or import any pre-made jackets.
